Sometimes it is all too easy to assume that if you lose your job, you can file a claim for unemployment benefits and receive at least some temporary income. After all, your employer has already paid for these benefits to your state’s unemployment insurance fund. The money is there. You just need to claim it. Sounds easy, right? Think again.

While the unemployment insurance system is set up to work that way, the practical facts are that when it comes to your specific claim, there are more hurdles than you might expect. Don’t forget – you’re dealing with a state agency, but your employer (ex-employer) will likely fight your claim every step of the way. Why? Because it can be penalized by federal and/or state authorities when you receive the benefits that you deserve!

As your Unemployment Advisor, I will provide you with an overview of the system in the accompanying e-book (that you can download and read). It gives you an overview of how the system works and shows you the challenges you may face in receiving your unemployment insurance benefits – how to file your initial benefits claim, dealing with denial or disqualification, and appeal a denial if necessary.
